little fish big sea

So here it is. My kintting, crochetting, sewing, ect blog. I am tired of the family blog and am always thinking of things to post on ones knitting blog ig one had one. I thought  about the name for a few days and then asked my hubby his oninion. I liked “bamboo is my FAVE” but he suggested the above and of course it is better. i wanted to include my sewing and crochetting too. In my  natural personality i cycle through fazes of what i am in to doing. I assume i am not the only one like that. And of course blogging and knitting is my get.

My crafting history perhaps is appropriate here.

My mother was a supreme seamstress as was her mother before her. As far back as i can remember i adored looking at the slightly yellowing photos of dresses and outfits my grandmother had made my mom and aunt. They were totaly awesome. One in particular was this green velvet dress with leg-o-mutton sleves that my mom wore to the christmas dance in about 7th grade. There seh was in all her glory in this great dress and fancy up-do. Anyhoo. I lwas inspired from an early age. I grew up to the hum of my moms singer sewing machine in its own cabinet( why the heck dont they make them like that any more)  My falls were filled with fabric scraps on the floor and my mom sewing behind a little screan made from her cutting board. She did not want us to seethe wonders she was frantically working on for christmas. I never wore a store bought haloween costume untill i was in 10th grade. And then it seamed as though i was betraying my mother.  At nine years old i finally conned her in to teaching me to sew. We made a small quilt and pillow for my my-friend-mandy doll.  I was hooked. I have never realy loved to use a pattern but am getting much better about it now.  My grandmother also crochetted since chioldhood so there were miriad sweater vests and afgans  growing up, but mostly i remember all these terific little animals that she made me. A mouse holding some cheese,  strawberry shortcake dolls,  and the crowning glory, A life size or bigger Kermit the frog. I am not sure when i recieved it, maybe my third christmas. It was my best friend from the start. there are tons of pictures of me and the frog everywhere. There is even a story of me breastfeeding the frog at a baby shower at 4yo.  I loved to dress him up(mainly in girls clothes) and take him everywhere.  LOVE LOVE LOVE the frog. i want to find the pattern and make them for my kids.

SO i tried to crochet as a highscooler but failed. I sewd lots of things.  And finally after my second child was born, my Mother in law bought me my first pair of knitting needles(huge pink plastuc 7’s) and a roll of the big red hart nasty multi color stuff. She got me a booka nd i picked it up quickly and have been knitting ever since. I finally figured out crochetting about 2 years ago and love that as well. it makes me feel very connected to my grandmother who lives far a way and i hardly ever see.

gosh that got long.
